HON AJIBOLA MURAINA MOVES A MOTION ON THE NEED TO INVESTIGATE THE BRUTAL MURDER OF DR FATAI ABORODE
December 16, 2020
Hon Dr Ajibola Muraina, the Honourable Member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa Central/ Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, earlier today, Wednesday December 16th, 2020 at a plenary of the 9th House of Representatives of the 4th Republic, moved a motion on the need to investigate the brutal murder of Dr Fatai Aborode, a successful business man and grassroot politician, by unknown gunmen while returning from his farm (with the Manager of his farm) on a motor bike, along Apodan Road, Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government of Oyo State on 11 December, 2020.
In the motion that passed as moved, the federal lawmaker expressed concern that the killing of Fatai Aborode is one of such numerous incidents as that axis of Oyo State had been prone to violent attacks by criminal elements, which had resulted in the death of indigenes and the abandonment of farmlands.
Taking cognizant of the fact that the level of insecurity is attributed to the inability of security operatives to secure the area and disturbed that the inability of the Nigerian Police Force to track down the assailants for prosecution may compel residents of the area to take laws into their hands, the House resolved the following:
(i) Observe a minute's silence in honour of the deceased person;
(ii) condemn the brutal murder of Fatai Aborede by bandits, criminals and unknown gunmen of Igangan, Oyo State, on 11 December 2020;
(iii) condole with the family, friends, the entire people and Government of Oyo State for the irreplaceable loss;
(iv) urge the Inspector General of Police to intensify investigation of the case to identify those responsible for the murder of Fatai Aborede for the Law to take its course;
(v) also urge the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to review the Security Architecture of Ibarapa Central/lbarapa North Federal Constituency, Oyo State and indeed Nigeria as a whole with a view to stemming a reoccurrence of similar incident;
(vi) further urge the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to deploy more Police personnel to Ibarapa Central/lbarapa North Federal Constituency and Oyo State to provide adequate security of lives and properties;
(vii) mandate Committee on Police Affairs to ensure compliance and report to back within two (2) weeks for further legislative action.
