Makinde Reinstates Hijrah, Mawlid Holidays, Says No Govt Policy Prevents Wearing Hijabs to School | Southwest-frontier News

Governor Makinde Reinstates Hijrah, Mawlid Holidays, Says No Govt Policy Prevents Girls From Wearing Hijabs to School

February 24, 2021
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reinstated the erstwhile cancelled Hijrah holiday and pledged that during his administration, Oyo State will celebrate the Mawlid al-Nabawi holiday (birth of Prophet Mohammed SAW) alongside the rest of the world.

Speaking earlier today at the Mawlid al-Nabawi celebration held at the Government House Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan, the Governor said, “Last year, due to the pandemic and other issues, we were unable to celebrate the Mawlid al-Nabawi as expected.
“So, this year when the S.A Islamic affairs reached out to me concerning the Mawlid celebration, he proposed a big gathering and I agreed.

“Now, we know what is right and I am pledging that from this day forward, we will hold the Mawlid celebration together with the whole world.”

”Also, by popular demand from the Clerics including the Chief Imam and the people of Oyo State represented here today, we are reinstating the Hijirah holiday.

“We will also observe Hijrah as a public holiday here in Oyo State.”
Meanwhile, Gov Makinde debunked rumours that the government prevents Muslim girls from wearing hijabs in schools.

He said, “Some people have questioned why I didn’t allow girls to use hijabs in school. I am here to say that since I took over as the governor of the state, there has been no government policy that prevents girls from using hijabs.”

Finally, the governor called on residents of the state to contribute their quota to make sure that the peace and security committee that was recently inaugurated works effectively.
He said, “I want to urge everyone present here today to contribute their quota to make sure that the peace and security committee that was recently inaugurated which includes our religious, traditional and political leaders work effectively.

“Whenever a report gets to me from the committee, whatever is necessary and needed will be done.

“Don’t be afraid because the governor is doing everything to ensure the safety of every citizen and resident of Oyo State.

“Let’s cooperate with this administration to work towards the growth and development of the state.”

Makinde Reopens Sasa Market, Lifts Curfew, Announces Closure Of Iroko Market | Southwest-frontier News

Makinde Reopens Sasa Market, Lifts Curfew
...Announces Closure Of Iroko Market
…Govt To Install Solar Lights In Sasa Market

February 23, 2020
Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Tuesday directed the immediate re-opening of the crisis-torn Sasa market,  in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo state.
The governor, after a meeting with representatives of Yoruba and Hausa communities who are stakeholders in the market, said that he has agreed to reopen the market, having been assured of sustained peace.
The stakeholders were led by the Baale Sasa, Amusa Alabi, and Seriki Hausa of Sasa, Malam Haruna Mai Yasin, to the meeting which held at the Western Hall, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde stated that the market is being reopened so that people can continue to make their ends meet.
He also declared that his government has lifted the curfew imposed on the area in the wake of the violence that erupted in the market recently.

He said that due to the normalcy that has returned to the area, the government will put in place palliatives, while also ensuring that adequate security measures are in place to ensure people go about their normal businesses without threats.
He stated that every effort must be put in place to forestall any outbreak of crisis.
He said : "Since peace has returned to the market and the community, we have given the go ahead that the market be reopened. I have ordered that some palliatives be done. This is because we also want to see what is happening there at night. So, I instructed that solar light be done so that we will see what is going on there every day and night.
"In our environment, economic activities are very germane and basic. We do not want our people to be hungry and angry so that we do not precipitate another issue.
"So, closing the market for an extended period of time is not sustainable but the fact that all the stakeholders within the community have come together themselves, it is a good step in the right direction."
Makinde also announced the closure of Iroko market adding that its promoters were reportedly part of the traders who caused the recent clash at Sasha market.
He said: “The Iroko Market will remain shut. From what we heard, the promoters of that market were part of the people causing confusion and problem at Sasa Market. We will take a long-term view of the Iroko Market but in the meantime, it must remain shut.
"I thank you because I know what it takes for you to be here. I have listened to you the leaders of Sasa.
"When my brother-governors visited Seriki Sasa's palace, while we were working around, I realised that both the people I saw at Seriki's place and those I met at Baale's place were not happy because they have been deprived of doing their job.
"If you look at Oyo State, even when the COVID-19 was at its peak, I decided not to shut our market places because I know and also explained to the leadership of the country at the national level that in our state, we have people that the proceeds from what they get today will determine if they will eat tomorrow or not.
"So, considering the economic situation and the peculiarities we have with us, I have heard what you said, and we will immediately reopen the Sasa Market.
"The Commissioner for Local Government is here. They will bring bulldozer to the market today or tomorrow morning. They will clear the place and whatever palliatives we can do will be done.
"But I want to appeal to you largely to continue to have a good relationship with the Baale and Seriki of Sasa just the way it has been.
"Please, go back to it and wherever you need our support, we will ensure we give it to you. And if there are challenges, we are all here to fix them for you. Return to the market and Sasa community.
"So, once again, I am coming back to Sasa Market when the commercial activities must have begun fully. "The solar street-light installed at Ojoo will also be installed at the market so that you can trade both day and night and the community also will be well illuminated."
Speaking earlier on behalf of the traders, DIG in charge of South West, David Folawiyo, clarified that peace has returned to the warring communities and urged the governor to reopen the market for traders to continue commercial activities.
The DIG equally appealed to the governor to help the traders clear the garage and expand the frontage of the market for trailers conveying goods to market.
He said: "We have seen that there is now peace in Sasa. So, we want to urge the governor to expand the market so that trailers can enter there conveniently, even if the market will not be repaired and renovated for now.
"We want the governor to help us clear the garage, expand the frontage of the market for trailers to park.
"What brought us here is to let you know that there is no division between the Yoruba and Hausa communities in Sasa. But the only division we have seen is only among the traders in the Sasa market.
"When the governor admitted that there would not be two markets there, all of us observed that it is a great inconvenience. And we also saw that after the closure of the market, four days after, everybody was already tired.

"From every corner of the market, they have been asking why we have not begged the governor to open the market. They even said if the market is not opened, their trailers should be allowed to convey goods to the market like before. And that is why we are here today so that we can present this case to the governor by ourselves.”

The meeting had in attendance,
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy matters, Chief Bayo Lawal, Commissioner for Investment,Trade and Industry, Hon.Adebisi  Adebiyi, and
Commissioner for Public  works and  Transport, Prof. Dahud Sangodoyin, the DIG David Folawiyo  incharge of  South West, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police - Ngozi Onadeko and many others.

Southwest PDP Uproar: A Tale Of Excesses - By Deji Ola | Southwest-frontier News

February 23, 2021
On February 22, 2021, I stumbled on two different notifications of Southwest PDP meeting emanated from two different sources and I asked myself, who are the agents of inadequacies? Despite the fact that I quiet understand the politics behind all these uproar, I still don't want to believe that effective resolutions can not bring normalcy to the polity.

Apparently, I am not the kind that always dabble into leadership crisis in our dear party- PDP, my  usual sermon is effective conflict resolution cum strategic management dispositions. But when hand shaking is going beyond the elbow, serious caution is urgently required.

The level of insubordination emanating from the
Ekiti State former Governor's camp is becoming alarming and it is pertinent to set the record straight while leadership of the party swing into action urgently. Different questions as listed below keep buzzling in my mind.

Is the former Governor having any hidden agenda?

Why is he investing more energy on his fellow party man instead of conserving same to checkmate APC in his state and at the Federal level by extension?

Should we collectively agree with the allegation flying around that he has pledged his allegiance to All Progressive Congress to frustrate PDP chance in the region for the incoming general elections in year 2023?

Who is afraid of Engr. Seyi Makinde's leadership style?

All these questions are begging for serious answers.

Evidently, Governor Seyi Makinde (GSM) leadership is bringing joyful moment to the people of South West and we can't afford to go back to the old Jericho where one man believes he alone can pilot affairs of the party in his state. We all aware of what usually ends such story.

It's too early to forget GSM's effort to settle internal crisis in Ekiti State PDP even amidst the covid-19 pandemic, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde travelled to the state to proffer lasting solution to the issue together with other stakeholders but some people still frustrated the entire process thereby making the whole issues more rigid and cumbersome.

Governor Ayo Fayose whom I take in high esteem should be cautioned before it's too late and if possible, strict disciplinary actions need to be taken urgently. I wonder who dare tackle him when he was in charge as the PDP South West leader. The quicker we all accept the fact that life is on a "turn by turn" basis, the better for everyone.

Apparently, when he was the only PDP Governor in the region, he was saddled with the responsibilities of leading the party. It's GSM's time, Govenror Fayose should not play ill-card to make things go out of hand. I know, His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde is only giving him due respect, that is why this issue continue brewing. If he is pushed to the wall, the last option would be activated as nobody is bigger than the party. Our party is supreme than anyone.
Despite being reluctant to agree with the news flying around on his readiness to work with the APC Southwest leaders, the recent TRAITOR-LIKE attitude of his has further convinced me that nothing is impossible in politics. The role Governor Ayo Fayose is playing now is capable of distabilizing our dear party and it's pertinent to state that posterity is watching everyone. While wishing those queuing behind him best of luck, they should not also forget that "bi a ba ta ara ile wa lo'po, a o le ri ra lo'won"

Our concentration is to continously dispense dividend of democracy to our people in Oyo State and South West at large. in addendum, nothing can distract us from liberating Nigerians from the shackles and manacles of oppression.

The quiz competition which drew people from all walks of life including most brilliant students in the selected Schools and their other colleagues was keenly won by Bishop Phillips Academy, Ibadan. Coincidentally, the school happen to be the Alma Mata of the Executive Governor of Oyo state,  His Execllency, Engr. Oluwaseyi Makinde.

The fourth position is Lagelu Grammar School that scored  39.5 points and Anglican Grammar School Akinyele, Ibadan scored 18points to clinch the  fifth position.

The students could not hide their joy as they proudly appreciated the NGO for coming out with this great event, they also appealed to the NGO not to make this event a one off but rather a continous activities to rejig our education sector in the state and to awake the sleeping giant in them. They also appreciated Hope Regerated Foundation, Precy Foods and Plantation Foods for sponsoring the event.

The Convener, Comrade Deji Ola during his opening remarks, appreciated all his friends and loved ones for their interest in his dream and for always coming out to contribute their quota for the advancement of the state and Nigeria at large. He also encouraged the students never to deviate from their core values and to always be good ambasadors of the their respective states and the pace setting state by extension. He further said, there is also need for them to embrace random kindness the way friends of Deji Ola are doing.

The Convener whose face was filled with joy also appreciated Oyo State Honourable Commisioner for Education, Science and Technology for granting them approval to organize the event. He also appreciated those who sponsored the event and pray for their continued financial upliftment.

The two representatives of the five schools went home with cash prizes each and also got certificate of participation, award certificate and other gift items.

The first position got Twenty Thousand Naira each, second position got Fifteen Thousand Naira each, third position got Ten Thousand Naira each while forth and fifth positions which comprises of four students got Five Thousand Naira each.

This is just the beginning of greater feat from Friends Of Deji Ola (FOD).

Eminent Citizens of Ibarapa Land:
Mr Tokunbo Toriola, CEO Folawale Services Consultants.

Mr Sola Oke, CEO Good Networks Global Concept.

TPL Samuel Adesokan.

Mr Fagbemi Dominic Al-amin Akinjide.

Gentlemen Of The Press.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen.

All thanks and glory to Almighty God for the life and physical well being given to us to see this day and to be a part of this commendable event.

I hereby congratulate the entire body of the Federation of Ibarapa Students Association, FIBSA in general and the Students Parliament in particular for the vision and effort behind the Parliamentary Summit.
The legislative arm is a very important and indispensable component of any democratic administration and educated youths like you have a future of service there. I am happy and proud that Ibarapa students are preparing themselves for this great future.

Every single nation has their own challenges and problems and our country Nigeria is not an exception. It is our responsibility to identify these challenges and chart a sure and definite course out of them.

On my own part as your representative, within my first legislative year alone, I was by God's help, able to propose and move six motions. I also proposed ten bills and monitored several projects for the benefit of our people.
Of the six motions I proposed and moved, I will give details of just one, in view of the present challenge of pervasive insecurity nationwide, not only in Ibarapa land. The motion: Matter of Urgent Public Importance - (Standing Order 8 Rule 4) on dastardly attacks by armed bandits and criminal elements notorious for kidnapping, rape and extortion of huge sums of money from their victims in Ibarapa Central, Ibarapa North, Ibarapa East Local Governments of Oyo State, some parts of Oyo State and indeed almost throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I successfully moved this motion on the first day of the plenary of the 9th House of Representatives on 13th June, 2019. This motion eventually led to the general agitation for a rejig of the security architecture of Nigeria which culminated in a security summit by the whole of the states of the Southwestern Nigeria. This eventually resulted in the establishment of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, by the Southwestern states of Nigeria.
I am confident that in the course of this Parliamentary Summit, many other problems and challenges of our nation will be identified and addressed, particularly as they relate to the need to build and sustain viable youths for nation building. Your efforts and contribution is acknowledged and appreciated. Be rest assured that you have my unflinching support.

The last in the series of the motions I moved was on 16th February, 2021 wherein I urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to review upwards the number of state constituencies in Oyo State from 32 to 40. The house unanimously adopted the motion and also approved that the review be not limited to Oyo State but be extended to cover the whole Nigeria.

Once again, I thank God and my constituents for the opportunity given to me to give them this great and wonderful representation on the floor of the 9th House of Representatives. The best by God’s grace is yet to come. Thank you and I wish you all God’s abundant blessings.

Have a happy and successful deliberations.

Groups salute Senators Balogun, Odebiyi stand on insecurity in Nigeria | Southwest-frontier News

February 18, 2021
Professional Women's Group and Concerned Christian Citizens have commended Senator Kola Balogun and Tolu Odebiyi for their courage in expressing their concern on the issue of security in the country.

In a statement signed by representatives of the groups, Mrs Foluso Oyenuga, FCA, and an octogenarian, Prof Adebisi Sowunmi, they urged both Senators to continue making bold and unbiased submissions until the government finds a way to address the present security challenges facing the country.

It would be recalled that Sen. Balogun, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, in his presentation during plenary on motion on general insecurity in the nation, said "It was an opportunity for me to make a strong position on the spate of insecurity in the nation and particularly recently in my district.

I had to speak and express the concerns and fears of my people and Nigerians in general on the killings by herdsmen all over the nation. While Sen. Odebiyi, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, in his own submission said "We have a national crisis on our hands. It is a national crisis that has been devoid of leadership politically and morally. We must see it the way it is. Between May 2017 and May 2020, there have been 624 attacks, 2239 killed, 393 wounded, 253 kidnapped, 16 raped 752 homes destroyed. That is an analysis done by a research firm in Brussels on what is happening in this country.
People’s earnings, people’s lives have been ruined. It is upsetting and we must rise. This country is on a precipice of a civil war. The president needs to speak and calm the nation.”

According to the statement, the groups commended both Senators for the boldness to speak the mind of the people on the situation of security in the country bothering on the issue of Banditry and Fulani killer herdsmen.

"We commend both Senator Balogun and Senator Odebiyi who are from South West on this submission at the Senate.
"We however expect more of this honest and frank submissions as true representative of their Constituencies.

"We look forward to greater cooperation with them on this and other issues that  will accurately reflect the true position of things in their Constituencies" the statement concluded.

An Open Letter To All Apostles Of Fake News - Deji Ola | Southwest-frontier News

February 17, 2021
Pleasant day to all my people, I have been monitoring with great interest the recent happenings in the state, and I am left with no other option than to write this open letter just to correct some anomalies.

To say that I am not happy is an understatement hence the need to swiftly make my position known regarding how people spread fake news in the  state and it's negative effects on our well being.

Before going further, I will like to advise our people not to allow themselves to be used to fan or perpetuate the embers of discord and disaffection under any guise as this is  tantamount to playing into the hands of egocentric Politicians who are hell-bent on taking power by all means.
We do not need to consult any oracle to know the game as it's visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. However, I will try within my ability not to colourize this letter with any political justification, I will also deem it fit to call it the exact way it is so that it will serve as deterrent to others who are still warming up to toll this destructive lane. Do I need to take our people on memory lane?

Insecurity in the country is a perrenial challenges and lately, it depend on how we handle media our activities as any fake reportage has the ability to ignite conflict in our community in a twinkle of an eye.

Nigeria no doubt is presently into forced marriage as a result of 1914 amalgamation and until we are set to review this process, no amount of ethnic crisis can bring about secession nor restructuring. Nigeria is known to be  multiethnics, multilingual, multireligion, multicultural, multipolitical entity which is volatile to any form of fake news.

Can we over emphasize the havoc fake news has caused our dear state?

One will ask, what will people stand to gain in spreading fake news?

Should we say some people are hiding under disguise of "I hate Seyi Makinde" and I love my people so as to fan ember of discords?

Well, it's pertinent to advise everyone not to take Governor Seyi Makinde leniency for granted.

As good as socal media is, those using it to propagate fake news need to be called to order, we can not continue to look away as if all is well. I am also aware that some people are feeding fat on this act but one need to always think of posterity.

The recent crisis in Shasha market was an eyesore and it is still fresh in my memory as I can not explain the negative effect of fake news in that incident. My condolences to those who loss their loved one in the ugly incident. May God give them fortitude to bear the huge damage.

Regrettably, While people were busy ensuring that  peace reign in the market, some were busy propagating lies, fake news on different social media platfoms with different narrations. This later resulted to total breakdown of law and we all aware of the end of the story. Where did we get it wrong ?

As if this is not enough,  as I was driving through Bodija market on Monday, February 15, 2021, I decided to park and get some fruits, durng the process, I checked my phone and I saw a breaking news with the headline; "Bodija is burning, Yorubas are killing Hausas", I paused and asked myself, is there another Bodija market somewhere aside the one located in Ibadan North Local Government of the state?

No doubt, it was another attempt to cause voilence and glory to God for arresting the situation, it would have been another story by now. The question is, what do we all stand to gain in this evil act?

Can a state undergoing civil war enjoy dividends of democracy? Can election or any other meaningful economic activity hold in such State?

I will advise power-hungry Politicians to hold on till 2023 before playing their cards. While doing this, they should ensure that  our peaceful coexistence is not jeopardized. My advise also goes to all social media users, we should always validate and revalidate our source of news as circulating story or reports of uncertain or doubtful truth can be counterproductive. We should not make ourselves available for those who always think about themselves alone and not our well being nor the state.

GSM is the Sheriff in charge now, he deserves our total cooperation to take the state to the well deserved destination.

I want to totally agree with Martin Luther King on his assertion that: _“Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding: it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends up defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers.”_

Federal Lawmaker, Hon Ajibola Muraina Moves The Motion To Increase Oyo State Constituencies From 32 To 40 | Southwest-frontier News

February 17, 2021
Hon Ajibola Muraina, the Honourable Member representing Ibarapa Central/ Ibarapa North in the Federal House of Representatives at the plenary of Tuesday 16th February, 2020 moved a motion on the need to increase the Oyo State Constituencies from 32 to a maximum of 40.

The motion titled: "The Need for INEC To Review Upward The Number Of State Constituencies In Oyo State To Satisfy The Provision Of Sections 112-114 Of The Constitution Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria (As Amended)", was based on the provision that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shall divide every state in the federation into such number of State Constituencies as is equal to three or four times the number of Federal Constituencies within the State.

Furthermore, the Constitution provides that the House of Assembly of a State shall consist of three or four times the number of seats that State has in the House of Representatives, provided a House of Assembly of a State shall consist of not less than twenty-four and not more than forty members.
Hon Dr Ajibola Muraina in moving the motion, pointed out that Oyo State having fourteen, 14 Federal Constituencies should have forty, 40 State Constituencies, being the maximum threshold prescribed by the Constitution, instead of the thirty-two, 32 State Constituencies presently in operation.

Since the inception of the present democratic dispensation on 29 May 1999, INEC had failed to review the number of State constituencies in Oyo State hence this legislative action on the part of Hon Ajibola Muraina   to address the failure or refusal of INEC to comply with the provisions of the Constitution

The motion as moved by Hon Ajibola Muraina and  co-sponsored by the other thirteen, 13 federal lawmakers from Oyo State is intended to ensure that the people of Oyo State obtain equitable and fair representation in the State House of Assembly in time for the conduct of the next general elections in Nigeria.

The motion which was jointly seconded by a duo of honourable colleagues of Hon Muraina from Lagos and Kano was amended at their request to enable the review cover the whole of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not be limited to Oyo State alone. The House unanimously passed both the amendment and the motion as amended.

Otunba Adeseye Famojuro And His New Age: Making Years Count Instead Of Counting The Years | Deji Ola

February 14, 2021
Apparently, Otunba Seye Omituntun has became household name not only because of his vast knowledge in human management but because of his undiluted loyalty to his Principal.

In my previous epistle, I refered to him as a man of logical positivism who doesn't have any form of impossibility in his dictionary. Yes, this is a statement of fact which can be revalidated through his uncommon styles of leading. You will agree with me that he is a master planner cum Strategist. No wonder he is the eyes of GSM. Apparently, no leader will adopt a laggard as his
d'Ć©quipe nor contremaĆ®tre. Nobody will like to include individual who will always engage in foot-dragging to his or her team.

Everybody desire people who will easily key in to our dream and make things happen without any form of procsstination. *If your think loyalty, think Otunba, if your think dedication, think omo Famojuro*.

As stated in one of my article, Otunba is one the best eleven in this current administration and the reason is not unconnected with his tested loyalty, dedication, unending contribution and ever renewed zeal towards the Omituntun Project. He has been subjected to various forms of integrity and loyalty test. Oga always  come out with clean hands.
Otunba Seye I know can be trusted to produce world class result under kind supervision of his Boss called GSM. This is a man that always place premium on Omituntun disciples and I am happy for what God has done in his life.. Beyond rhetorics, Otunba is a man who will never compromise Seyi Makinde's stand, for this he deserves our accolades.

May this special day of yours bring to you more visible positivity, productivity,  breakthrough and achievement. Happy birthday my leader!

Sen Kola Balogun: The Hope For The Hopeless, A Case Study Of Kayode Osotoye | Southwest-frontier News

The Story of Kayode Osotoye...

February 11, 2021
Kayode Segun Osotoye was born on 7th September, 1973. He attended Loyola college in Ibadan North East Local Govwernment in Oyo South Senatorial District.
His tertiary education was at Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin.
On completion of tertiary education Kayode joined the services of the Nigeria Prisons Service (Now Nigeria Correctional Service). He rose to Senior Inspector on level COMPASS-06

Osotoye’s name was erroneously inserted in a list of officers who presented fake credentials for employment.

His employment was thus erroneously terminated in the year 2016.

All efforts to seek redress hit brick walls.

The bread winner of his family became jobless, due to no fault of his but someone else’s error.

Relief however came his way when on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020, Senator Kola A. Baiogun representing (Oyo South) rose on Order 47, and drew the attention of the Senate to a petition from Osotoye Segun Kayode against the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) for erroneously including his name on the retirement list of senior officers of the Service in 2016, and urged the Senate to look into the matter.

The Senate committee that sat on the matter found out through the Ccntroller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) that his name Was erroneously included in the list of officers that had written resignation letters because they presented forged certificates to the service and that the retirement of Osotoye Segun Kayode was based on the error.

The Senate then urged the Board of Customs, immigrations, Civil Defence and Correcticnal Service to approve the recommendation of tne Ccntroller-General for the reinstatement of Osotoye Segun Kayode together wlih the payment of all his outstanding entitlements and promotions accordingly.

Kayode Osotoye’s pains have thus been assuaged.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko, led other top police officers to parade the suspects and others arrested by men of the command in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The CP said, “On January 2, 2021, at about 1955hrs, some members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate who have been terrorising members of the public in the Ibarapa axis of Oyo State invaded Subawah Filling Station located along Idere Road, Igboora, with sophisticated firearms such as AK-49 rifles, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons. In the course of the attack, the kidnapper shot indiscriminately in different directions, and in the process, two young girls who were later identified as Bababtunde Omowumi and Toriola Kudirat were hit by stray bullets and died on the spot.

“The suspects whisked her (owner of the filling station) into the bush where they brutally murdered her after shooting at her several times in the stomach.

“The three deceased victims were later deposited at the morgue by policemen from Igboora Division and upon the conclusion of their preliminary investigation, the case was transferred to the Monitoring Unit for more diligent investigation. No sooner was the case received than a team of crack police detectives swung into action and arrested nine suspects from their hideouts.

” On January 5, 2021, further investigation revealed that one of the prime suspects Jare Mohammed (Male) inserted his sim card Number 07086824526 on the Nokia Phone belonging to the deceased, Alhaja Adisa Sherifat, which was carted away from her during the armed robbery operation that claimed her life.”

I never Attacked Governor Makinde On Ibarapa Crisis - Oyo PDP Spokesman | Southwest-frontier News

...says Malicious Publication aimed at At creating disaffection in Oyo PDP

February 8, 2021
The Oyo State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr Akeem Olatunji, has said that  he did not challenge the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde  over the farmers/herders crisis in Ibarapaland, contrary to claims by an online news medium, Sahara Reporters.
The party's spokesman, in a statement in Ibadan on Monday said that the publication was not only false but malicious and an evil machination by some disgruntled elements within the party who aim to use the group chat to advance their ulterior motives.

Sahara reporters had on Saturday reported that "the crisis within the Oyo State chapter of the PDP in Peoples took another dimension with the exit of Governor Seyi Makinde from the party's official WhatsApp group on Saturday.
Sahara reporters went further to state that "the Publicity Secretary of the party, Akeem Olatunji, had earlier posted a video of an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on the people of Ayete, headquarters of Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state on the WhatsApp group.
The newspaper further claimed that Olatunji had challenged the governor on the veracity of the video, something it said angered the governor and led him to exit the platform.
The spokesman however stated that there was no.truth to the claim in the online newspaper adding that some disgruntled members of the party are were behind the publication.
He said that those behind the publication have been looking for every available means to tear the party apart  and retard its growing fortunes, while also seeking to pitch him against the governor.

He described the governor as not just leader of the party in Oyo state and south west Nigeria but also his political mentor whom he holds at the highest esteem.

Olatunji said: "ordinarily, one  would just have allowed this sort of malicious campaign of calumny to pass but sometimes silence may be misconstrued to mean acceptance, that's why it becomes imperative to clear whatever evil machinations the malicious and apparently sponsored publication sought to achieve.
"First, the very respected leader and Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde and myself are on the same page on every policies and programmes of the present administration and my relationship with the architect of modern Oyo state will continue to remain cordial.

"The Governor, like every other member of the official PDP WhatsApp group in Oyo state have every right to exit the platform for whatever personal reason but such should not be translated to advance any ulterior motives especially in the media, for whatever reason.
That can only amount to  a campaign of calumny and its unfortunate.
"It is obvious that their plan is to create disaffection among us to further advance their cause.

"I have a very smooth and cordial relationship with Governor Makinde and his sterling performance across all sectors of the state economy has been one of my greatest source of strength and motivation.
"As a loyal party man, I will continue to propagate his achievements to the entire world.

"Posting a video with such negative content that is capable of projecting the PDP government in bad light  was absolutely the handiwork of our detractors who perhaps have collaborators within us in the ruling party, and it is my duty as well as every other loyal party member to urgently report such to our party's official platform with the view of getting immediate attention of concerned authorities to stop the spread of such malicious video.

"Governor Seyi Makinde, whose refined approach to politics has  given opportunities to all has  apparently angered some of our party members who felt they have been sidelined and looking for ways to manipulate whatever harmless disagreements emanated on our official WhatsApp platform.

"Only a foolish person and a disloyal party man will want to stand in the way of a performing governor like  Engr Seyi Makinde or dissociate himself from a government that is daily making life comfortable for its residents.
"It was absolutely untrue, false, malicious for anybody to take activities in an enclosed WhatsApp group to Sahara reporters which  is not on the platform or has a representative on the group.

"To set the record straight, I did not and will never attack my Governor because he is a man I am very proud of and always want to emulate in my approach to refined politics and delivery of good governance.

"The video has since been confirmed by concerned authorities to be fake as expected. "The Oyo state chapter of PDP will continue to support Governor Makinde and the government under his able leadership.
"I have spoken with the Governor and all concerned persons in government and we have a clear understanding of the situation at hand."

Makinde’s Aide Warns Against False Social Media Alarms On Security Situation | Southwest-frontier News

...Says Unscrupulous Elements Raising Ethnic, Religious Tension Through Fake News, Urges Residents Not To Panic

February 7, 2021
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, has warned against the growing false security alarms in the form of fake audio and video posts on social media, declaring that residents of the state should ignore such contents.

The governor’s aide warned against raising false alarms on the security situation in Ibarapaland and parts of Oke-Ogun, adding that security agencies will readily deal with anyone seeking to cause ethnic tension.

Adisa, in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, said: "The penchant of certain individuals, groups and faceless bodies to take to social media and raise unfounded alarm just to cause panic among the people of Oyo State is becoming a cause for concern.”
He equally warned purveyors of such fake information to desist before they plunge the state into crises with unforeseeable consequences, stating that the after-effects of the fake videos, false alarms and fake news would be grave.
He added that some unscrupulous elements seeking to cause crisis in Oyo State through false social media audio and video releases, as well as sponsored fake news in a section of the media, are behind the plot.
According to him, such persons and groups are intimidated by the level of successes recorded in the one and a half year administration of Governor Makinde and believe that they can only gain attention by causing fear and apprehension among the populace.

Adisa particularly mentioned that some viral social media video and audio messages in which false and inciting claims were made about Ayete, Igangan, and other parts of the state have been on the rise in recent weeks.

He said that some of such unfounded and baseless posts include the claim that Amotekun Corps killed some Fulani herdsmen, which amounts to a hoax; the claim that an imaginary 200 houses were razed by hoodlums in Labiran, Ibadan, which the Police vehemently denied; and the claims that the insecurity situation in Ibarapa has escalated, which is outright falsehood.
The statement recalled how the Department of State Security (DSS) had recently released an intelligence report that some people were planning to cause religious and ethnic crises in Oyo and some states.

The statement added that it appeared that there is a plot by some elements, especially politicians, to cause religious and ethnic crisis in Oyo State with a view to derailing the state government, warning, however, that such people must realise that the state is bigger than any individual and that its interest and peace should always be placed above any primordial, personal or political interests.
The statement read: "Our attention has been drawn to a grand plot to precipitate unrest in Oyo State through the use of fake news in the social media. This plot seeks to promote false alarms, misinformation and sponsored fake news through audio, video and Facebook messages and it is with a view to making the state ungovernable.
"As a government, the contents of some of these audio and video releases have been investigated and mostly found to be outright falsehood, baseless claims and products of hate speech, targeted only at discrediting the government and inciting the people.

"As a proactive government, the Makinde-led administration has risen to the occasion on the issue of insecurity and we are already winning the war against criminality, with several measures rolled out to tackle kidnapping and banditry in Ibarapa and some parts of Oke-Ogun, while efforts have also been increased to tame the violent gang wars in Ibadan."
The statement recalled how Governor Makinde visited Ibarapa, explaining that some gains had already been recorded from the government's efforts on Ibarapa with community leaders testifying to weeks of respite in Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun axes.

"It will be recalled that Governor Makinde visited Ibarapa last week and he was at the hot spots of crisis, while a high-powered team comprising government delegates and the Police had visited the area and some parts of Oke-Ogun earlier.
"As part of efforts to bring a lasting solution to the security situation in Ibarapa, the government deployed 200 additional Amotekun Corps and also equipped them with four additional operational vehicles.
"The governor has also ordered that Peace and Security Committees be set up across the local governments so that all critical stakeholders would be on board to address security issues in their localities.
"The governor equally convened a meeting of all stakeholders in Ibadan North-East to address the issue of hoodlums and gang wars in the state capital once and for all.
"With all these steps, it is clear the direction the Oyo State Government is going in terms of handling the insecurity challenge and the only thing left to be done is to wait and see the results of the interventions.
"However, we have discovered that some individuals driven by inordinate political ambitions have been over-reaching themselves and sponsoring falsehood against the government.
“In some cases, as seen in a recent viral video, we have seen badly put together video and audio releases, where the supposed whistle-blower, who probably is neither resident in Oyo State nor have much knowledge about Ibarapa,  had to read from a script, mistaking people's names and even claiming he was referring to Ibadan State.
"The truth is, no one can gain anything from the unforeseeable consequences that the plot will bring upon the state. As Governor Makinde recently warned while in Ibarapa, everyone should put the interest of the state first in whatever they do at this period.
"However, our admonition goes to the members of the public across the state. Do not panic; do not succumb to the sponsored falsehood, as the state government is working assiduously to arrest the insecurity situation.
"Similarly, though the governor has made it clear that anyone who sees something should say something to the government, members of the public should ensure they are giving truthful and factual information, so that security agents will not be embarking on a wild goose chase based on wrong information", the statement concluded.

February 4, 2021

“We have not made any official statements on the matter and the matter does not really make any sense to us. If somebody who identifies himself with the cause of Yoruba could be talking in that manner about the Ooni who is indisputably a spiritual head of the race, then one must wonder whether or not the person has been representing us truly. It gives room to people to suspect your motive.” - Ooni of Ife
