NO PAIN NO GAIN

At 53 going on 54, I can't describe myself as athletic, but I don't let the grass grow under my feet either. As a student of Botany in the University of Lagos back in the 80s, I was an active member of the Taekwondo Club and a favourite student of Sabon George Ashiru. I got as far as blue belt before other interests pulled me out. The point I'm trying to make is that I've always been the kind of person that doesn't take his physical fitness lightly. I played a lot of school and neighborhood football too. Till today, I still do the Saturday morning football, whenever duties and responsibilities allow, and a daily morning walk, given the same proviso.
So you can imagine my mien when on the morning of Friday July 9, 2021, I woke up to a sprained back (a friend who had experienced the same told me it has to do with vertebral discs). Whatever it is, it isn't funny. I was reintroduced to bouts of physical pain (the emotional ones had never gone anywhere 😁), the likes of which I'd not experienced since my Teakwondo days!
